FAQs about hotels in Honolulu

A True Water Sports Paradise

Standing proudly on the island of Oahu in the Pacific Ocean, Honolulu is the Hawaiian capital, meaning "a sheltered bay." Spreading along the white sandy beaches and supported by the strong back of the volcanic mountains, it's a real island paradise.

Honolulu's most popular and famous district, Waikiki, features the stunning Waikiki Beach decorated with hundreds of surfboards, palms and lounge chairs. It’s also a center for the city’s nightlife and shopping, especially along Kalakaua and Kuhio Avenues.

As the most popular activities in Honolulu include surfing, snorkeling, canoeing and other water sports, it's no surprise the city has a number of sandy beaches. Try Hanauma Bay, a crescent-shaped beach with rolling, green hills behind it.

For fans of hiking and exploring, nature awaits at Diamond Head Mountain, a volcanic tuff cone where you can admire the panoramic view of the city. There is also the Bishop Museum with the world’s largest collection of Hawaiian and Pacific artifacts and the Waikiki Aquarium with over 490 species of marine fauna and flora.

From hotels near Honolulu International Airport to hotels near the beach, Booking.com has plenty of properties, from cheap to luxury, for your Honolulu trip.

Honolulu is a place you can make as busy or as relaxing as you want. Ample food options, beautiful beaches and incredible sunsets to ensure with friends and family. Shopping and discovering both the history and the culture of the area make for a well-rounded destination no matter your interests. Worth while exploring the island too if you have the chance. There are plenty of day tours available that take in some incredible sites up the east coast of the island and around the north shore. Definitely a destination that you can return to time and time again.

Honolulu is a big-ish city, it has a big mall, lots of tall buildings, government buildings, homeless people, etc... If you are looking for a slower more relaxed vacation with fewer people and buildings, look at the other islands, or at least don't stay in Honolulu/Waikiki. On the other hand, there are a lot of great little food places and more than their fair share of brew pubs.

We enjoy the location close to Ala Moana shopping centre, Ross and Wal-mart. We also enjoyed the breakfast, tasty , good options to choose from and the discount on breakfast. We like the fact that this is a hotel that serves local people, and Hawaiian residents who live other islands in the state. In other words, this hotel does not have a tourist vibe. I like coming to the Pagoda, because I used to live here in Honolulu as a child and I remember my parents would come to the restaurant for special family dinners.

One is greeted by an Aloha breeze in the foyer with large glass windows where you can enjoy the rocking chairs and watch the boulevard, beach, and zoo. On the second floor is Lulus Restaurant with an open view of the Waikiki beach. Entering into the Park Shore is a lovely lounge area that plays good Hawaiian music. An excellent Japanese restaurant and the ABC market is in the lounge area, so convenient. The hotel serves AM coffee; however a Starbucks is steps away outside of the ABC market.

This hotel had so much character. For the most part we really liked it and we have stayed in quite a few hotels and resorts in the Waikiki area. We really loved the vintage vibe that felt well thought-out and not cheap. The bar and pool were great and all the rentable chairs/body boards were SO handy and we were glad they were included in the price. Beds were comfortable enough, and room was well decorated. The location is ok in the fact that it is close to the beach.

Staff was just okay. We had an issue with the information we received for the cost of the taxi from the airport to the hotel. I called 2 days before and was told that the cost for the taxi was a flat rate of $26. We were thinking about a Uber which was cheaper. We used the taxi and paid $58 for the ride. Certainly not $26. I felt I got “ripped off” because of bad information from the staff at the hotel. We did take a Uber back to the airport and paid $20 less.

The rooms and bathrooms were large. The location was perfect, close to everything. The plants and such on the property were beautiful and made it feel like Hawaii! It was nice having a continental breakfast, ice water and a lanai. It was also nice to have beach towels to use when going to the beach! We appreciated the hotel storing our luggage between the time of check out until the time we needed to head to the airport which was about six hours!

We enjoyed our stay very much at the Moana Surfrider! The hotel was beautiful and classic! Great service all around. Our only suggestion is that you book a room on the beach side rather than city side. It got extremely loud at night and if it weren’t for a sound machine, it would’ve been difficult to get to sleep. Also, we recommend hitting Waikiki beach in the morning. It got very busy past 11am. But overall it was an amazing experience!

large beachfront property, landscaped tropical gardens, several swimming pools to choose from and it fronts a pretty good beach - compared to others in Waikiki. it is walking distance if you want to shop or eat cheaply at Ala Moana. there are plenty of dining options on site at the hotel at a variety of price points. The location is right on the beach, yet private. Rooms are large and newly refurbished. The whole property is very clean with luscious greens and plants. Hotels key provides free access to some of Hawaii's museums. Evening entertainment is very low-key yet high quality: little noise after 8 pm. Great location close to famous Waikiki beach. The tea and coffee table in hotel lobby is great to start your day. Also the hotel staff is nice and try to help. Because of our evening flight, we asked to leave our luggage at reception during the day and it was not a problem. However we couldn't take a shower in the hotel in the evening, they provided us towels so we could take a shower on the beach.

Nothing. This hotel is not what it seems from information online. To say it is a luxurious upscale beachfront property is misleading. It is not directly on the beach and is surrounded on all sides by other buildings. The ocean view is in fact a slither of ocean through the surrounding buildings and our rooms faced onto a parking lot.

Accommodation in Waikiki (and all Hawaii) is super expensive, so nowhere is cheap. But, compared with other hotels this place represented good value. Staff were awesome, location was great. Perfect location, in a middle of all hustle and bustle of Waikiki. The hotel is kinda run down. Needs an urgent refurbishment all the way through, but it’s on a cheap side so fair enough. You won’t be spending time in your room apart from sleeping anyway. You’re in Hawaii after all! :)
